13 Things you didn't know about Tom Cohen and Stopping Stations and didnt know whom to ask.
1) Tom's brother, Haim, died when Tom was 12 years old, in 1988. Tom thinks of his brother as "the greatest musician that ever lived". The 80s ended in 1988.
2) Tom picked up the guitar (his brother's guitar) when he was 14 years old, he is a self taught musician.
3) The name of the album is taken from a line in one of tom's brother's song, "The General's Idea".
4) The cover photograph for stopping station was taken by Toms' brother in Europe. Tom was with his brother when he took the photograph and his brother said "this could be a great cover for an album". It is.
5) The first song in stopping stations, "Bazzentalk" is a play on the words "bass talk", as the bass guitar plays the main melody in the song.
Since the original version was on tape, Tom had to research his brother's notes in order to find out what the name of the song was.
6) In his brother's songs, Tom wanted to stay as loyal to the original versions as possible. For example: you can hear a hiss tape in the beginning of "Bazzentalk", as it originally was recorded on tape. Being in a digital envouriment Tom had to sample the hiss tape. Which nobody notices but him. There are also sounds of a microphone dropping on the floor, delay feedback and other tricks that Tom insisted on re-creating.
7) The song "Couple Ambitions", is a song by Tom's brother, Haim, that Tom didn't have the original recording to. Tom had to cover everything from memory.
8) The song "Everybody Wants To Kiss You", is actually a song that Tom wrote in high school.
A Hebrew version of the song exists. With the same title.
9) Rain was written on a piano and was originally a slow ballad.
10) The last song on the album was written and performed by Tom's brother, Haim Cohen. It was recorded on a 4 track tape in the mid 80s.
